The predictors of L2 grit and their complex interactions in online foreign language learning: motivation, self-directed learning, autonomy, curiosity, and language mindsets

Learning a foreign language is long-term process requiring persistence and willingness to engage in activities that will help develop communicative competence. An important role on the way achieving linguistic proficiency played by L2 grit. However, learners differ intensity of this trait. We identify most predictors grit online learning context. Basing literature review, we first possible generic learning, including mindsets as well two general psychological dispositions: sense autonomy curiosity, subsequently one predictor specifically related virtual context, i.e., readiness for learning. A multiple linear regression model built using questionnaire data collected from 615 69 countries enrolled courses taught remote or hybrid mode reveals determined dimensions lesser extent learners’ significantly positively correlates with these factors. The explains 48% variance dependent variable. subsequent network analysis, applications method field SLA, permitted estimating relative importance factors complex associations, indicating equally strong direct connections between both much weaker edge linking autonomy. findings have practical implications teachers settings.
